ABOUT US

Welcome to Legacy Builders

At Legacy Builders, we believe in the power of guidance and connection. Our mission is to foster meaningful relationships between young men and mentors, inspiring personal growth, strengthening families, and creating a legacy of faith-driven leadership.

Our Mission

Legacy Builders is a program designed to provide Christian mentoring and discipleship of young men by pairing them with older men who will guide them on their journey to become better Christian men, husbands, fathers, employees/employers, by teaching them Christian values and the Christian belief system, and how to apply it to their everyday lives.

BELIEFS

The Challenge of Fatherlessness

Fatherlessness is a significant issue, especially for boys. In the U.S., about 1 in 4 children—over 19 million—live without a father at home, leading to higher risks of trouble, drug abuse, and academic struggles. These children are more likely to face poverty and emotional challenges, worsening social issues. Even when a father is present but uninvolved, the impact can be just as damaging, leaving kids feeling neglected and searching for their place in society, particularly if they haven’t been raised in a Christian home or taught to live out Christian values.

The Bible emphasizes the importance of active fatherhood. Ephesians 6:4 encourages fathers to raise their children with care and guidance in the Lord’s ways, while Proverbs 3:11-12 teaches that discipline should be done with love, mirroring how God guides us. An engaged father makes a profound difference in a child’s development and well-being.

The Importantance of Mentorship

Mentoring is essential for boys without active fathers or those with uninvolved fathers. It significantly boosts school performance, self-esteem, and behavior by providing guidance, support, and a positive role model, filling the void left by absent or uninvolved fathers.

The Bible endorses mentoring. Titus 2:2-6 encourages older men to teach younger men about faith and character, while Proverbs 27:17 likens mentoring to iron sharpening iron, highlighting how mentors and mentees help each other grow.

Healing from Abuse & Neglect

Parenting is a challenging journey, and even with the best intentions, mistakes can leave lasting wounds. These wounds often require healing before true reconciliation and growth can occur, and without healing, dysfunction may persist across generations.

Children thrive with love, structure, roots, and wings (Patrick Morley). Yet, behaviors like being under-involved, absent, permissive, angry, or belittling can unintentionally create barriers to their development.

Legacy Builders provides mentorship to help young men heal from childhood wounds, empowering them to grow into better husbands, fathers, employees, and friends—breaking cycles of pain and building a legacy of strength.

The Church is losing the younger generation

The purpose of this group is counter the growing trends of the younger generations’ lack of Church involvement by having men in their 40’s and older pair up with men in their 20’s and 30’s and become a guide, mentor, and friend that will eventually guide them in spiritual matters.

The relationship must be built before the spiritual aspect can occur. Young men often do not need a reason to attend church, but rather a reason to stay. For the younger generation, this often means a significant relationship. Research shows 80% of church attendees come from a two-parent home, with a father who attended church with the family. This data is consistent in all generations. Two-parent homes have been declining since the early 1960’s.

Male Friendship Recession

The May 2021 American Perspectives Survey found that Americans report having fewer close friendships than they once did, talking to their friends less often, and relying less on their friends for personal support.

Thirty-six percent of young men say their parents are the first people they reach out to when facing a personal problem. And the number of young men relying on their parents for personal support has more than doubled over the past several decades.

The number of close friendships Americans have appears to have declined considerably over the past several decades. In 1990, less than one-third (27 percent) said they had three or fewer close friends, while about as many (33 percent) reported having 10 or more close friends.
